It's February!

February has come in so cold!! Luckily we have had a lot of fun inside over the past week...

Patterns, patterns, patterns! We can make patterns with all kinds of things.

All kinds of wild animals on the loose!
How many people can we stick in a tent?

The bears have come to visit with Goldilocks and the Three Bears! We listened to 3 different versions, used the computer to draw the setting and can easily identify the main characters! We are story superstars...

We have been building all kinds of things... houses, vet clinics, rockets out of playdough and flannel board scenes from Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

Sometimes the cat needs to go shopping for groceries!

Working on our letter recognition and keyboarding skills!
Crafting and drawing all kinds of shapes....
Race track fun... we added jumps and bridges and practiced taking turns!

 Following directions... we are awesome!
Mr. Bubbly and Bubba have been watching for SUPER KIDS all week! There have been 8 super kids caught doing great things! Way to go Kindergarten!

Don't forget Valentine's Day on Thursday. We will celebrate a day early because it is a PD day on the 14th! Can't wait to see everyone on Monday!

Keeping busy!

The last few weeks in Kindergarten we have been busy learning and acting out winter songs, sequencing how to get dressed to go outside, playing cooperative games in gym, learning about the letters k and u, practicing subitizing, patterning, number writing and recognition, reading snow and winter stories and of course playing during centers. Here are some pictures of the last two weeks....
Playing in the snow and sand...

 Fun with boxes!
Look mom, we made a fort!

 Building a parking lot.

Did you know rice sounds like rain?
 Playdough creations!

Finding all the snowballs... they go all over the room!

Next week is a short week. No class on Thursday or Friday. We will be going outside on Monday and Tuesday. The weather forecast for Monday is chilly so be sure to dress warmly.

We will be working on letter Vv next week! Keep practicing all the letters and sounds we have learned so far!

Have a good weekend and see you all on Monday!

Our first week back in 2014!

We started off the week talking about the New Year and setting goals. The students worked on a craft and were asked to set a goal about something they would like to get better at in Kindergarten. They had a lot of good ideas. You can check them out on the hallway bulletin board.

At centers, the students have been very busy building towers with plastic cups. They have found a variety of ways to make the towers taller than themselves and have built many forts for themselves. They have also found out they fall down very easily!

We also worked on writing words and letters from around the room.

We talked about 3 ways to read a book:

1.  Read the pictures.
2.  Read the words.
3. Retell the story.

These pictures show us practicing our reading skills!

It was so much fun with a friend!
We read the books; Snow, The Snowy Day and Snowzilla this week to help us share our ideas and experiences about snow. From our discussions and stories we made pictures of what we would see if we looked out our window and wrote a poem to go with it.

All this talk about snow led to an experiment about melting and turning a solid to a liquid. The students made a lot of predictions and observations about the snow and then we watched it melt throughout the day and noted the changes.
It was not melted when we left at lunch but the next day it had turned into water! We made good predictions that it would melt!

It was a great start to a New Year this week! See you all on Monday!
Enjoy the weekend.... The Kindergarten Team
