Learning About Mo Willems!

Last week we wrapped up our research/zoo unit and moved onto an Author Study of Mo Willems. We have read and discussed Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late, The Pigeon Wants a Puppy and a variety of Gerald and Piggie books. During the discussions we have reviewed characters, setting, story events and have been learning about speech bubbles, showing emotion through movement and drawings, all which Mo Willems' books are famous for! Next week we will begin "Work on Writing" time. We will learn how to be like an author, where to get ideas from, what tools do we need and continue to work on adding detail to our pictures and labelling our work.

Here is a glimpse into our Kindergarten world....
T made an alien.

M made a vacuum cleaner.

Working on numbers to 20.

Figuring out what letter goes before and after.

Creating at the craft table.

Comparing objects to determine length.

Making shapes with the geoboards.

Working on patterns.

Reading with a friend.

Eyeballs on our nose! The sillies have to come out!

Creating at morning centers.

This car has a pillow for the passenger in the back.

Working on tracking left to right while reading.

Fishing while camping.

Taking pictures while on safari.

The costumes are always a big hit and even more fun when the animals can sleep in the tent!

The queen and her crown!

This trailer has an extra part for when it breaks down.

Practicing our reading, building our stamina, looking for sight words and having fun with a friend!

Writing pops up everywhere!

On our spring walk! We didn't find too many signs of spring but we sure had a lot of fun rolling down the hill and looking in the lake!

Outdoor activity time really helps us with our gross motor skills. Climbing, swinging, running, sliding and crawling!

New funnels and tubing in the water table to explore. As J and L said, "we are doing science and water."

Working on fine motor skills through our elephant art project.

L's hands were so wrinkly after being at the water table for so long!

A birthday cake for me???

The loose animals in the class can be frightening for the teachers.

B found a frog with his grandpa and brought it in for sharing! It was so fun to watch.

Selfies with Mrs. Maris!

Our writing project to follow up the story, The Pigeon Wants a Puppy but I want a.... check out the students' writing in the hall!

The following pictures are from the student IPOD... they are always fun to look at and see what they document.

Don't forget swimming is next Thursday.

Have a great weekend and see you on Tuesday!
