Letter Dd, ladybugs and donuts....

In Kindergarten this week we practiced identifying, printing and making the sound of the letter Dd. We found out that dog, dinosaurs, donuts, Dane, dad, ducks, door and dance all start with the letter D. We looked at ladybugs in the bug box and then practiced a guided drawing. We painted dogs, dinosaurs and ducks, looked for dinosaurs in the rice table, played with dinosaurs at the block center, made letter D dinosaurs and dogs (take a look at them outside our door) and ended the week making donuts! The kids thought they were DELICIOUS! We read name stories; Just Dog, My Name is Elizabeth and Chrysanthemum and did a puzzle with our names to create a graph of how many letters are in our names. At circle time, for movement breaks, we have been working on yoga balancing poses. This helps build balance and core strength which is very important in all our big muscle moving. Ask your child if they remember tree pose, mountain pose and surfer!

For next week, look for the October class newsletter to come out! (already) We have our Bus Barns field trip on Tuesday! (yippee) And don't forget class on Friday. We will be learning about the letter Ff and going for a fall walk to look for seasonal changes! Library will be on our regular scheduled day of Thursday.

Enjoy the weekend and we will see everyone on Monday!

A few things....

The bus field trip form is coming home on Monday. Please return it on Wednesday, September 25th!

Don't forget to fill out the prize draw form from the September newsletter and send it in.

Scholastic orders are due on Monday, September 23rd!

Letter C Week.... and so much more!

This week we focused on the letter C. On Monday, we made cookies and took one bite out of them to make the letter C. By the end of the week everyone could remember something about the "Magic Password" C. One parent shared that their child started finding the letter C in everything they were reading!
We also had a very successful Fire Drill, our first visit to the library and some fun in the gym playing Red Light, Green Light and playing on the scooters.
We learned a few new songs. Ask your child if they can sing Baby Shark. The students have had so much fun being all the different kinds of sharks.
In Math, we worked on subitizing groups of dots on the dice. By the end of Kindergarten, the students have to be able to subitize groups of objects/dots to 5. Playing games with dice is very beneficial in learning this skill!
It was another fun and busy week in Kindergarten! Wishing everyone a great weekend and we will see you on Monday!

What a great week!

What a fun week getting to know each other! We passed the ball around and worked on learning each other's names, toured the school, met the principal and secretaries, practiced our space bubbles in the gym, played on the playground, tasted watermelon, painted with watermelon and of course played at centers. We sang 5 Little Monkeys, Head and Shoulders, Oliver Twist and then did some dancing! At calendar we have been working on counting to 10, finding out what a pattern is and days of the week. The students have done a great job listening to stories and to each other. This week we read; Pete The Cat, The Enormous Watermelon, Look Out Kindergarten, Here I Come and Little Critter's First Day of School. The Kindergarten team had lots of fun and can't wait for next week! Have a good weekend.

What a great group of Kinder Kids...

Here we are listening, so well, to a story about Little Critter. We also sang, danced, counted, drew, played and went outside for recess! Everyone did such a fantastic job! We also met our brand new Monster friend who is here for the year to watch us. He is watching us be Brave, be helpers, be kind, be friends, be sharers and be good listeners! Don't forget to think of a name for him tonight! I hope you all had a good day at Kindergarten, just like me! See you tomorrow!
