Getting to know Kindergarten!

We have had a great start to Kindergarten over the past two weeks. We have been getting to know new friends and all about our new classroom. There are so many new routines to learn throughout the day and the students are doing a super job figuring things out.
Here are some pictures of things we have been up to!
Looking closely at the shells and meeting a new friend.
Learning to share and play with new people.

Building with magnets and duplo.

Listening to a story so everyone can enjoy it!

Working on building strong muscles through outdoor play!

Playdough fun.

Building and exploring a variety of toys and materials.  (Week 1)

Morning play time is a chance to practice social skills through free play, fine motor work, math manipulatives and working with the teachers.

Taking time to look closely at sunflowers and expressing ourselves through art.

The sandbox is full of ocean animals and seashells.... a good way to say good bye to summer.

Great triangle, J.

Sorry about the blurs! Sometimes they move quickly!!

It is amazing to watch the students create a variety of things through play. They are constantly thinking trying, changing, balancing, persevering, communicating, sharing and growing all throughout the day!

The students have been working on watching, waiting, turn taking and safety throughout their time on the playground equipment.

We made a foot book for letter F. Each student had to take a selfie of their feet!
N was working on building shapes. We talked about what makes a rectangle, a rectangle. 2 short sides and 2 long sides. (he then turned it into a square)

Lots of fine motor work in the morning. Working on building strong finger muscles and coordination for printing, coloring, painting, tweezing and lacing.

Working on print awareness with our pocket chart poem - My book is... Each student will be bringing home their poem to read on Tuesday! Be sure to read it with your child. They were so proud of themselves during our reading time!

Hold on tight!

Painting some pictures for mom!

Practicing our letters and names through sand play.

Free play center time is a chance to explore, build, create, share, learn, role play and have fun! The students are doing an amazing job choosing centers independently, working with others and being kind.

We started Star of the Day! The kids love to see who is going to be the next Star. Can't wait until Tuesday.

A made a magic wand and we were wishing it was real!
Students are beginning to make new friends and enjoy playing with each other.

N stuck almost 100 penguins, on their stand, by himself! What great perseverance.
There was a lot of collaboration building this train track. Lots of kids involved.

L made some tall towers.

On Thursday, we had the portables moved onto the school grounds and we weren't able to play on the playgrounds, so we decided to take this opportunity to explore the "forest" near Cranna Lake. It was a beautiful day to be outside and the students collected leaves, sticks, bugs, pinecones and climbed a lot of trees. It was a wonderful time to observe them playing outside of the classroom. We talked a bit about the changes we are seeing outside and the change in our season to fall. We will continue to explore fall throughout the month of October.

 Collecting all kinds of treasures.

Hold on tight! They were like monkeys in the trees

N found a lot of leaves.

We met a nice man from the City. They were working on moving some stuff around with a bobcat. Very interesting when you are 5.

Lots of rolling down the hill... there may have been grass stains. They were working on being careful not to roll anyone over!

C built a fire out of twigs. It was such a great idea that the rest of us joined in. We roasted marshmallows and hotdogs (in our imaginations) and wished we could have lunch in the forest.

Some of the boys found mushrooms growing under the trees! They might have chopped them up with their sticks.

Mrs. Maris and the kids working on starting a fire by rubbing two sticks. Mrs. Maris said she was learning about never giving up!

We talked about the letter Ff this week and created some funny, frog faces! We worked on cutting, gluing and following directions. They did a super job.

Thanks for sending in pictures for our Ff collage! The students loved sharing what they brought. Look out for Letter Tt this week!

Happy Fall from Us All!

See you on Tuesday!
The K team :)
