Happy Halloween!

This week was lots of fun as excitement built with the coming of Halloween. We counted down the sleeps each day and the students did a great job of telling me how many were left, even before I asked!
We made Monsters from our milk jugs.

We made and taste tested pumpkin pie and milkshakes. Our data showed us that only 1 person did not like pumpkin pie and 1 person did not like pumpkin milkshakes! We talked about the steps to making a milkshake and most importantly what would happen if we left the lid off the blender.

Here are some pictures of the fantastic costumes that came to school for Halloween!

We had super heroes, princesses, fairies, a queen, dracula, a cowboy and mustard!

We did some limbo and balloon dancing and after that we needed a rest, so we played Halloween Bingo.

Finally, we got to have our Halloween snack! It was delicious and thank you to everyone who sent in treats! It was a perfect balance for healthy and treat!

We ended our day playing at centers with our new friends and then headed off to library!

Thank you to our fantastic pirate parent helper!

Wishing everyone a very Happy Halloween! Enjoy the weekend and we will see everyone on Monday! Be safe and don't forget to brush your teeth! :)

How Does A Pumpkin Grow.....

That has been our question this week. We have been learning about the pumpkin life cycle and have read books, watched a video and sequenced pictures. The students learned vocabulary to go with the life cycle; seed, sprout, vine, flower, green and orange pumpkin. They observed a pumpkin, both inside and out, and used their 5 senses to explore.

We will continue to observe the pumpkin and see how and what happens as it decomposes! The story, Pumpkin Jack, will be read next week to help us understand and make predictions about what will occur. It sure does get smelly!

We introduced a dress up center this week and the students have been having so much fun dressing up and even some of the EAs! Some of the students have even started to go trick or treating.

During tech time, we headed to the lab to make a counting book to 10 and continued our counting and showing numbers to 10 in the classroom. We have been working with 5 frames, making numbers and then breaking them apart! We continue to sort Halloween objects and this week we will work on more patterning.

Thursday, is our Halloween dress up day. You can send your child to school in their costume or we can help them get ready here at school. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to bring snack! It looks like we will have a feast fit for Halloween.

The weather for Monday and Tuesday looks cold.
Please be sure your child will be dressed warmly for those outside days!

Thanks for another great week in Kindergarten! See you all on Monday....

Letter L Week.... lines, lanterns and leaves!

This week we focused on Swifty's SAFER tools and stories that promoted solving problems with others and what we can do to be a kind and caring person at school. We read How Full is Your Bucket, Llama, Llama and the Bully Goat and Llama, Llama Time to Share. We will continue to work on this concept throughout the school year.

We also, wrapped up talking about Autumn changes and will now focus on pumpkins and their life cycle over the next week. We will be looking at pumpkins, both inside and out, measuring them, tasting them and reading stories about them.

For Math, we have been working on sorting a group of objects out by color, size, shape, animal type, legs, tails, feeling, type of shells, wings and a few other attributes the students have come up with. We continue to work on number sense during calendar time.

On Friday, we finished  the week doing letter Ll activities.
All centers focused on fine motor skills and following directions. Students created lines, leaves, lanterns and letter Lls. It was a fantastic way to finish up the week!

This week, look for a short note about Halloween day. A sign up sheet will be outside the class if you would like to send something for snack that day.

As well, a story about Thanksgiving dinner that the students were practicing reading in small groups and some work on letter recognition and their names, will be coming home. Please remember, we are just building print awareness skills in Kindergarten and the small books that come home are for you and your child to read together. Have them practice tracking across the sentence as you read, reading the pictures and focusing on the letters we have learned so far! C, D, F, T and L.

 Swifty's SAFER Tools

Stop and walk away.
Apologize.
Find help.
Explain how you feel.
Remember the right thing!

Have a fantastic weekend. See you all on Monday!

Fabulous, Frog Leg Friday!

What a fun and busy week we had in Kindergarten. We went to the computer lab for the first time on Monday and learned how to work on a program called Pixie.

On Tuesday we headed out on our field trip to the bus barns to learn about bus safety and most people's favorite part was the bus ride or jumping out of the back of the bus. We learned that it is important to sit down on the bus when it is moving and never go back for something if you drop it near the bus. Lita and Bonnie, the bus drivers, were excellent and even sent us a treat back that we will enjoy next week.

On Wednesday, we followed directions to create a bus cookie! The kids did a great job spreading the icing, adding wheels, windows and lights! The best part was eating it.

On Thursday, we started working on sorting objects. The first things we sorted were Fruitloops and the students found out that they could be sorted by color. We will continue working on this concept for the next 4 weeks along with patterning.

Finally, on Friday we sorted feathers and falling leaves, ate some French Fries and ventured off on our Fall Walk! It really was a fabulous week to be teaching such a fun group of students!

Have a fantastic weekend and see you all on Monday!
