What did we do....

This last week week we introduced new learning centers in the morning focusing on both numeracy and literacy. We continued exploring patterns with 2 or 3 elements, playing math games, reviewing letters and sounds, reading with a partner and much more. 

G was thinking about a strategy to solve the math problem. She drew pictures to figure out how many snowmen were playing tag. 

Working together to order the penguins from 10-1. This was great for cooperation work.

We had so much fun playing outside in the warm weather! A lot of snowhills to slide down and chunks of snow to bring in the class.

The students love the playdough. Each day cookies, muffins, cakes, snowmen, snakes, flowers and much more are built here.

Happy New Year and Welcome Back!

It was so nice to see everyone after the break! The students shared about their Christmas holiday and it sounds like they all had a very good time. The students did a great job getting back into class routines and worked hard at learning center time. This week we got to use the gym again, go to the computer lab (two times), had indoor recesses in the mornings and an indoor snowball fight! It was loads of fun for everyone. 

Building race tracks! It was a tricky one because the log could fall down on your car.

This city had so many cars in it and at one time a lot of bad guys.

C read us the "e" book at the Reader's Chair.

A lot of sorting and patterning and counting going on. The students are doing so well with bigger number counts over 10.

Indoor snowball fight! 

Don't worry, we used styrofoam balls. After throwing for a few minutes we had to freeze, pick up two snowballs and read the letter or number on them. 

One learning center was creating snowmen out of playdough and taking a picture. Working our fine motor skills.

Snowball cutting. The object was to cut as many snowballs as possible in their group. The students are cutting curved lines very well. 

Rolling dice and counting. Most students are working on counting 2 or 3 dice. This gives them practice with 1:1 counting up to 12 or 18. 

A family of snowmen.

Building challenge: create a 2 meter tall tower, that will stand by itself. Working on cooperation, teamwork, planning and fine motor skills. 

Build a tower game. Working on subitizing, making groups to 6 and comparing shortest and tallest and how you know!

The students cut so many snowballs. We practiced counting carefully, by marking the snowballs and then compared the numbers to find out which was the most and least. Looking at the number line helped us figure things out. We continue to look at numbers in patterns to figure out those numbers in the teens and twenties.
