Introducing the Night... (on a short week)

On Tuesday we shared about our long weekend, talked about all the snow and drew pictures of our weekend. We are working on using different colors in our pictures and adding detail so someone can tell where we are in our picture, inside or outside. While we do our sharing circle we are working on listening to others when they share and speaking in full sentences when it is our turn.

On Wednesday, we had 2 items in our mystery box. A sun and moon. After the students guessed what was in there I had them brainstorm all the things they knew about night. They had a very long list! At center time we practiced our fine motor skills and painted stars, focusing on painting in the lines, cutting on the lines and adding some glitter!
At center time, we have added a camping center, water table, space station and airport and the students are having a lot of fun. Sometimes, there are even bears in the woods!

On Thursday, we brainstormed all the things we see in the night sky.... stars, the moon, rocket ships, airplanes, bats, owls, shooting stars, planets and constellations. We read the story Snowmen at Night and then created a guided drawing and shared what our snowman would like to do at night! Did you know Snowmen go to the park at night?

Don't forget to practice the letters and sounds when you have a free moment. The students are starting to use those sounds to spell words in the Star of the Day message. Today the students spelled zebra, from sound clues, all by themselves! This week we reviewed the letter Hh.

Don't forget to get your portfolio walk letter back on Tuesday.

Book orders are due on November 15th.

We have class on Friday, November 15th and that is pajama day and bring a stuffy day! It should be a perfect day for looking at the classroom stars!

Have a good long weekend and we will see everyone on Tuesday!

Thanks for a great week,
The Kindergarten Team!
