Gingerbread Pirates!

What a fun and busy day we had! I forgot my camera at home so no tweeting happened! Read on to find out about our day....
We did a new experiment with gingerbread today. Mr. Elf wanted to know what would happen to a gingerbread cookie if it touched the water... because in our stories the gingerbread character is always trying to stay out of the water. We predicted that it would get; soggy, smooshy, mushy, shrink, disappear, squishy, gummy, smaller and maybe stay the same!

We put our gingerbread in cool water... not hot because that might make them disappear quickly

First, we noticed that they floated and then quickly sank to the bottom, The angel gingerbread did half and half.

Right away we noticed some changes....

Here they are after 15 minutes, the color is coming out and they are turning light.

Here they are about an hour later... they are breaking apart, floating and lots of color has come out.

Here they are at the end of the day! They are just pieces of gingerbread cookies. We found out that gingerbread cookies fall apart in water. Good thing that gingerbread girl could lasso the fox with her licorice hair!!
In the afternoon, we decorated some gingerbread men!

B said they were delicious!

Look at the licorice hair, just like the Gingerbread Girl!

 A little gingerbread picnic!

It's playdough gingerbread man! He later turned into a peg leg gingerbread!

After reading the Gingerbread Pirates the students created their own Gingerbread masterpiece. We have so many peg legs, even on the girls!

Mr. Elf slept the entire day away but I am sure he was watching and listening with his eyes closed! I hope he remembers to tell Santa about the science experiment!

Don't forget Christmas Concert on Thursday night @ 6:30. Looking forward to sharing our songs with our families!

The K team!

PS The gingerbread marshmallow men are still there! They never did disappear.
